I can only answer the first part -- a/v is fair, they are not 16x9 enhanced. I sure hope for an SE sometime in the future.

    Randy,

Here is an excerpt from the Fox chat transcript a couple of months ago:

I hope it hasn't been asked yet . . . how does somebody break into the DVD business? Say, a young graduate with a broadly applicable degree, like business or English? Also, would love to see Romancing the Stone re-released special!

I don't really know how you would break in. I got in quite by accident and I have a degree in archaeology! A love of film helps enormously and also it really depends on which side of the business you want to get into . Marketing / distribution / production all have very different requirements. Romancing the stone is on the possible list rather than the probable one so I wouldn't hold your breath! thanks.

Hey, I'm the one who asked that question!

I did eventually pick up Romancing the Stone for $15, which I think was a fair price. Let me tell you, it's not anamorphic, but the picture is still tremendously better than you will have ever seen it before. It's especially important (if you're a fan) because the 2:35 widescreen is preserved, which makes a big difference in the picture. Of all the DVDs I have, this is the one that gets the most response out of my family. They all see a difference in the whole look of the movie.

ONE PROBLEM! The English subtitles are missing during key jokes, like where Juan explains that "This is Miss Wilder, the one who writes the books I read to you on Saturdays!" Any re-issue, which I'm sure will happen in the future, must correct this.

I agree that Romancing the Stone isn't that bad for a non-anamorphic title.

Oh well. You always seem to know the good background information, so I thought it was you. [IMG]
Now I can't find the information, but I distinctly remember reading it on this forum.

I got information from DVDFile a while ago that a new release of Romancing the Stone would be coming in 2003. Long wait, though.

I hope they remaster the sound because it's very flat on the DVD. It could be LOTS better considering the nature of the type of film it is. I think FOX rushed it out very fast to DVD without doing hardly any work on it.

I would like to purchase both of these movies, but the quality of the current releases is ridiculously poor, and I refuse to buy them.

i dont think they should waste their time on a special edition for RTS, they should just go ahead and bundle both the movies together in a set.

Well hopefully not like that. I was thinking more along the lines of the boogie night special edition packaging. That would suit me fine.

All things considered I would be happy just to have both of these films cleaned up in anamorphic widescreen, with remastered audio (don't care if it's 5.1, just clean up the sound quality).
