Dear ROCKY HORROR fans and friends...
The RHPS Fan Club has a big scoop for all its devoted followers.
In Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the birth of "Rocky"
(when Richard was writing the original play)...Lou Adler and Twentieth
    Century Fox
will shortly announce a huge broadcast television event for February 2003....
A remake of the Rocky Horror Picture show with an all-new celebrity cast.
    What makes
this more exciting is that the director of this project will be Stephen
    Elliot who directed
the much beloved "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" and the cult classic
    "Welcome to Woop-Woop"".
Casting will be going underway soon and we will keep you informed of allupdates.
    Keep Time Warping...Sal Piro>

I don't know if it'll be good, or if I should be horrified

What in god's good name!?!?! A TV movie? I can see a remake for the big screen (like FOX was originally planning), but a TV movie? Now I can see if it was for cable TV where anything goes, but if it's on network TV, it will end up being god awful (unless it's on FOX).
Isn't Richard O'Brien working on a sequel to it? Why doesn't FOX throw some money O'Brien's way and get that sequel off the ground? I know O'Brien wants it to be a play first then movie (like Rocky and not like Shock Treatment), but money talks. [IMG]
Also, they better cast Amber Benson as Janet (damnit).
    ---
EDIT: While talking to that SOB who stole my Hedwig and jester hat signature (aka Rob Lutter) [IMG], he brought up a good point:
I want Shock Treatment on DVD... then they can do as they may. [IMG]
FOX should release Shock Treatment on DVD for Rocky's 30th Anniversary then mess with Rocky. Then if the remake is awful, I could care less as I have the original films on DVD. [IMG]
    ---
EDIT #2: Get Anthony Stewart Head as Frank (and Benson as Janet) and I'll be even more welcome to the idea! [IMG]

Actually, I think that John Cameron Michell (aka Hedwig) is a better choice for Frankenfurter [IMG]

I think that Anthony Stewart Head would make a better Brad or Dr. Scott. They definately better get Meatloaf back... or I'll be pissed [IMG]

Maybe Tim Curry can reprise his role. [IMG] Just kidding of course, he's already 56!
But seriously, this tv remake seems like it's gonna be awful. I'd much rather see a big screen remake or a sequel like Matthew said.

Tim Curry would not do Frank N Furter again for 20 million dollars
He's spent 25 years UNTYPCASTING himself as a Sweet Transvestite. He's appeared at exactly ONE RHPS convention, and from the footage on the LD/DVD, that was under duress of some kind [IMG]
The fastest way to end an interview with him is to mention RHPS

    Ummm....
    Uhh....
    No.
I'm just going to live my life like I never, ever read this...
--- PRETENDS TO IGNORE THE MATTER, BUT THEN GIVES IT SOME THOUGHT ---
You know, big deal. TV remake? Any remake? That's fine. It's not like my love for the movie is because of the source material, as opposed to, say, hundreds of weekend nights spent Doing The Same Shit Again with dozens of drunken idiots and friends.
And since the material -- well, the original stage musical anyhow -- is constantly being reinterpreted and represented on theater stages around the world, what's one more interpretation gonna do?
But I say this: the minute they announce a RHPS: Special Edition enhanced with CGI and special effects, then I will have a brand new candidate for the Irmo Q. Thodwacker 2002 Annual Missed-The-Entire-Frickin'-Point Award.
Like virgins who go to see it in the theater with a floor show, and then complain that "the movie sucked!" [IMG]

Hell, with the right cast doing something more like the play than the movie (like the recent TV version of Annie for instance), then I think this could be something different and interesting.

I can't say that I am looking forward to this TV movie with antici...................
.........pation. Sure the original stage production has been reinterpreted many times, but a TV movie on a US broadcast TV network? I don't think so. They'll tailor it to hit some desirable demographic for their advertizers and/or change it to pander to the lowest common denominator (we are talking about FOX after all) and/or worry about offending some easily offended religous or political group or corporate interest.

It is, I suppose, possible that they could do something interesting or even (gasp) original with the source material, but how often does that happen in the broadcast TV wasteland?

This could be cool with some inspired casting- as long as the cast has the guts to provide their own spin on the material. The other day my car broke down and as I was waiting for the tow truck a club across the street was blaring a Rocky Horror soundtrack. It wasn't the movie, London, or Roxy casts- honestly I'm not sure who it was. One thing was clear- this cast had studied the movie version all too well and their performances were nothing more than impersonations of the movie cast. It was pathetic. The Frank in particular was so Tim Curry that it was redundant. I know Curry's take was brilliant, but if they're gonna do it, it's time for something new.

Maybe they'll use the American Idol winners in the cast...

    (quickly jumps to the left)

Seriously, I can't imagine how this'll be good.

I see no need to remake this. It would be like remaking The Wizard of Oz.

But if they're going to do it... God, I'm gonna get bitch-slapped for saying this, but I'm not joking... I have the PERFECT Frank-n-Furter:

There is not enough bitch-slapping in the world to punish you for that suggestion.
