I just wanted to know something about the packaging of the Robocop Criterion. Does it come in a metal case like Terminator 2 or does it just look like metal?. I will be getting this off ebay soon so I just wanted to know before I bid on one.

Just in appearance only. No metal to be found on my proudly owned Criterion version. I picked mine up before this went OOP and the copy is an official release.

No metal case. It's on paper(like a conventional cover) made to look like metal.

Wasn't the laser disc in a metal tin or something though?

No - standard LP-style cardboard sleeve.

I was able to last year, are you suggesting that a majority of the Criterions on Ebay are bootlegs?

Is there any way to do a comparisson to confirm the validity of a Criterion disc purchased on Ebay?

Im not suggesting anything...I would never shop on eBay for a lot of reasons, but I think its pretty common to get ripped off on eBay...especially on OOP titles...Im not saying you cant get legit DVD´s on eBay...I just wished you good luck [IMG]

I've gotten plenty of legit DVDs from eBay (and a few not-so-legit ones, too... but on purpose). Ideally, you should buy only from an established seller with excellent feedback, and preferably one that makes a big deal about not dealing in bootlegs. And, still, you have to know exactly what you're looking for and ask specific questions if the item description is lacking.

eBay is a great thing, but it's like the Wild West. You have to know what you're doing, and what you're looking for. And if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Do your research before placing a bid.

I got a 1st printing of the Criterion LD, and it was as cardboard as it comes. Can I say absolutely they didn't make ANY special copies? No, I can't do that, as I really don't remember. I just know I got mine on street and there's nothing unusual about the jacket.

I agree...if you do your research, check seller feedback, ask the right questions and use basic common sense then your chances of getting burned are actually very low (at least when it comes to DVDs).
