Yes, he was memorable as Benson, although I suspect his work will endure more through his wonderful characterisation of Rafiki in The Lion King - a work that has already spanned a couple of generations, and will no doubt embrace many more.

I know nothing of his private life, but have certainly been entertained and enriched by his professional life.

Thank you, Mr Guillaume.

Also great as managing editor Isaac Jaffe on "Sports Night".

Never saw that one!

I'm jealous. The Sorkin Show I enjoyed most because it hewed away from political sermonizing and swerved toward humor. Plus is was 1/2 hour format, so it breezed by easier. A great show to still have the chance to experience for the first time

Robert has always been one of my TV favorites, especially as the sarcastic, smartest man in the room Benson. And such an amazing voice. While Soap and the 1st 2 seasons of Benson are available on DVD, I hope someday the rest of Benson as well as his other shows make it to disc.

As hilarious as Soap was, some of my favorite moments were those between Benson and Jessica. Robert and Katherine Helmond were great at bringing some warmth and humanity amidst all the insanity. Here was their final scene together (from Benson).

R.I.P., Robert.

This is why I'm perhaps looking into getting that 10th Anniversary release of it; it has a whole kit & kaboodle of bonuses (the first one [in 2002, I believe it was] had none whatsoever).

Sad, sad news but a life well-lived, in service of bringing so much pleasure to others. Thank you and rest in peace.

A slight silver lining might be that this will be the catalyst for the long overdue release of a Benson complete series box set. While we're at it, let's also have his brilliant co-produced/directed/starred TV movie, John Grin’s Christmas (1986) and the groundbreaking Robert Guillaume Show (1989)...
