The value specified on the back of the receivers is rarely the maximum power consumption of the device. Example HK430. avland.co.uk/harmankardon/avr430/rear.jpg Here you can see the specified power consumption at 550W. Yet in the manual (manuals.harman.com/HK/Owner's%20Manual/AVR%20430%20OM%20FINAL%20(REV%201-5-04).pdf) you can see the maximum power consumption rated at 940W.

Pauli, I have been trying to make my point that the number on the back is not automatically "maximum" unless otherwise specified as such. I think we are among the very few minority who still think this way.

On the other hand, if the 1014TX's 480W is in fact maximum, then its continuous output will be more likely 35W to 40W X 7, after allowing for losses. I wish someone from Pioneer would say something.

OOPS! My Parasound amp is NOT listed at 750 watts of draw. It is listed at a maximum draw of 775VA, which I believe (I may be wrong here) converts into just about an even 700 watts of maximum electrical draw. By the way, each channel has a maximum output of 30 amps!

The 52TXs current draw is listed as 480 watts. You have no doubt seen the review results. What difference does this make. It is just an excuse for criticism of the power output. They don't know how that 480 watts rating was derived and neither do I. Until someone can post something definitive about this, to argue about it is useless.

I'm not sure if this would mean anything, but if you look at all the HT Mag receiver reviews and tests, this is what you would see:

Receiver - WPC - 5 Channels Driven at .1% Distortion
Denon 2105 - 90 - 62.4
Marantz 4500 - 80 - 74.4
NAD 753 - 70 - 93.7
Elite 52tx - 110 - 115.3
HK 630 - 75 - 79.7
Denon 3805 - 120 - 114.9
Sherwood 865 - 100 - 71.1
Elite 55txi - 100 - 87.9

Amazing how the real world number improve as you go up Denon's product line huh???? :)

Great post James Phung!!!!!

The 3805 is a pretty big step up from previous 3800 line offerings it would seem on this note alone. My Denon 4802 actually came out a little higher than rated as well by the way. I'll bet the new 5805 just Rocks!!!

James, I wish you had posted the WPC (1,2 channel driven) into 4 ohms. If I remember correctly, the 3805 really pulled away from the others.
