Here's the angle you guys aren't seeing. For someone like me who has been obese since age 5 a bike like this that has power when you need it and manual when you don't could be just the trick to get us into a healthier lifestyle where we bike a lot more. Something heavy duty like this bike, as opposed to the ultralights that most 'normal' sized folks prize could be doubly so.

I don't unde stand these as notionally normal bikes with a better assist. These are going to be so much heavier and so tiring to ride than a typical hybrid, much less a lightweight road bike.

As a pure electric, sure. And then the pedaling is "emergency" when the battery dies a mile from home.
