The longtime Today show weatherman and television personality passed away Saturday at the age of 87. His successor at Today, Al Roker, posted a nice tribute:

Scott had the persona of a goofball but was an accomplished, serious broadcaster.

So personable. A great communicator. A pro.

In addition to all his years on the Today show, he also played Edie McClurg's husband on Valerie and was a frequent host of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, not to mention the original Ronald McDonald. Here's to a real icon of TV.

I met him back in the late '80s. He was a very nice man and very tall.

I remember his hairpiece on hairpiece off days. It became a running joke for a while.
Always came across as a real gentleman.

I remember when I first saw him on The Today Show. He was definitely not my cup of tea. But I must admit over time I learned to appreciate his style, and enjoyed watching him. As noted he was a consummate professional.
