The veteran actor has passed away at the age of 76 from complications of leukemia.
He made his acting debut in 1967 with In the Heat of the Night, the Best Picture for 1967. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his supporting role in 1980's The Ninth Configuration.
He acted in over 50 films, but he is best known to modern audiences for playing farmer and veterinarian Hershel Greene in the second, third, and fourth seasons of cultural phenomenon "The Walking Dead". He reportedly filmed seasons for the upcoming ninth season before his death.
He is survived by Heavenly, his wife of 41 years.
