don't have all the details, just heard it on MSNBC.

another familiar figure from my youth is gone.
used to watch both Darren and Dennis on the CBS Late movie in the late 70's /early 80s.

    RIP McCloud

Wow! I know they say they come in 3's, but this is too creepy...

    R.I.P.

    Darren McGavin - 84
    Don Knotts - 81
    Dennis Weaver - 81

Two 81 year olds (and the other only 3 years older) and all first names begin with D.

I had enjoyed watching Mr. Weaver in recent years in his capacity as occasional host of movies on the Encore Westerns Channel. He hadn't been on recently, but I hadn't thought too much of it.

Great actor and apparently a real nice guy offscreen as well.

    RIP

    Steve

In addition to his McCloud role and Duel, he also played "Chester" on Gunsmoke for many years.

A true shock to hear of his passing today ...

    RIP, indeed!

I heard Dennis Weaver's wife being interviewed on WGN today. She said they had been married for 63 years. That is just unheard of in Hollywood, or for that matter, almost anywhere.

For those of us of a certain age, the news of Barney Fife and Chester Goode dying within 3 days of each other is just spooky.

For me, Dennis Weaver will always be McCloud. Another childhood icon of mine from the '70s has departed. May he rest in peace.[IMG]

I was born in 1962, so I was at the perfect age to be mesmerized by GENTLE BEN during its run, which was my introduction to the wonderful talents of Mr. Weaver. I enjoyed his career from then on (loved McCloud, Duel, etc.), and only later did I discover the earlier Gunsmoke era which I had missed. (I grew up watching the Festus/Newly era.)

Three truly tremendous losses this past week... [IMG]

Gunsmoke is something a little bit before my time, but I do associate Dennis Weaver with McCLoud and have just started to watch the first 2 series of McCloud that were released last August. Here's hoping that the remaining series will see a release over the next few years.

Wow. I am old enough to remember him all the way from Gunsmoke right thru Duel and McCloud.

Always enjoyed his easy relaxed delivery. It never really seemed like he was acting, just being himself.

    Gonna miss him.
