Another legend gone. As a child of the 80's, I'm more familiar with her hits of that period and still have several in rotation on my iPod:

In today's Auto-Tune fueled and market research driven music world it's especially hurtful to see the greats go. Rest In peace to a truly amazing and legendary talent.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Universal Amphitheatre
Well here it is, the late nineteen seventies, going on 1985
You know so much of the music we hear today is preprogrammed electronic disco
You never get a chance to hear master bluesmen practicing their craft anymore
By the year 2006 the music known today as the blues will exist only in the classical records department in your local public library
So tonight, ladies and gentlemen
While we still can let us welcome from Rock Island Illinois
The blues music from Elliot Jake and Elwood Blue, the Blues Brothers

Great singer . Her early Atlantic period was amazing . Later on , she didn't always get material to sing that befitted her voice , but her singing was always awesome . RIP.

Great singer . Her early Atlantic period was amazing .

Recommended albums:
  • The Very Best of Aretha Franklin: The '60s (Rhino) (1-CD compilation)
  • 30 Greatest Hits (Atlantic) (2-CD compilation)
  • Queen of Soul: The Atlantic Recordings (Atlantic) (4-CD compilation)
  • Lady Soul (Atlantic)
  • I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You (Atlantic)
  • Young, Gifted, and Black (Atlantic)
  • This Girl's In Love With You (Atlantic)
  • Amazing Grace: The Complete Recordings (Atlantic)
"30 Greatest Hits" and "Queen of Soul" may be hard to find on CD - although it appears that "30 Greatest Hits" is, at least, available to buy in download form.

I agree . Each album a classic . I'd add the original "Golden Hits" album from 1969.
