The "Growing Pains" patriarch, gameshow host and general Canadian icon dropped dead of a heart attack at 69 while playing hockey with his 19-year-old son in Burbank earlier today.

In addition to his son, he leaves behind a wife and two other children from a previous marriage.

I remember Alan Thicke from way back when he used to host an afternoon show in Canada in the early '80s. GROWING PAINS is what he'll be justifiably best remembered for. The show was looking for an Alan Thicke type to play the Dad, and this was in my opinion, his best work in front of the Camera, although he was also a very amiable Talk Show Host, as I recall!

My condolences to Alan's Family and Friends! May he Rest in Peace!

Always thought he projected charm and good humor in pretty much everything he did. RIP.

I enjoyed his cameos on How I Met Your Mother, and of course have positive memories of his playing the dad on Growing Pains.

RIP.
