Scott has directed just over two dozen theatrical features since THE DUELLISTS in 1977. Only one of them, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, is missing on Blu-ray. Does anyone know why? It's a compelling romantic thriller and I would love to add it to my collection. Music rights issues, perhaps?

I haven't seen this in years. First viewing (maybe only?) was theatrically. Kind of a mixed bag for me, but I pretty much always enjoy Tom Berenger in whatever role he is featured in; and this film was no exception. I recall the visual elements of the film being pretty strong - so yeah I'd probably pick this up on BD as part of my Scott collection.

I would certainly purchase a Blu Ray of “Someone” as I have always enjoyed it and thought that it looked outstanding; particularly the scenes in the Guggegheim Museum.

Be patient, it'll show up eventually, most likely through Twilight Time or at the very least Mill Creek as both have deals with Sony. As to the film, it's, um ..... tolerable. Its biggest flaw is that the killer is a moron practically begging to get caught and it would have helped if they made Lorraine Bracco less shrill. Crikey, with a wife like that who wouldn't cheat with Mimi Rogers?

Sony is basically out of the catalog business when it comes to releasing those titles on their own, so that's the simplest and most likely explanation. There is an HD version that is available for rental or purchase through storefronts like Vudu and iTunes, so it can be viewed in HD via streaming and/or digital download. As to why it hasn't been licensed to a third party, it could be one of two things - either a third party hasn't expressed interest (or doesn't have interest at the price that Sony was asking), or the HD master might not be up to the standard that Sony insists upon for domestic physical media releases. We've seen examples with Sony not making HD masters for certain titles available to U.S. labels, but where they have provided them to overseas partners where apparently Sony can set a lower bar. So it's likely to be one of those things.

She was really miscast and abrasive in MEDICINE MAN, but worked out rather better in GOODFELLAS.]. Crikey, with a wife like that who wouldn't cheat with Mimi Rogers?

On the topic of cheating with Mimi Rogers (who was stunning in this film) I don't think the relative merits of one's spouse would be much of a factor given the opportunity. But maybe that's just me. :)

I have the same problem with A Place In The Sun. Both APITS and Someone To Watch Over Me stack the deck by giving us shrill and frumpy spouses/girlfriend on one side and stunning elegant beauties on the other side. It's more complex and not as easy a choice when everything is equal and it's just the circumstances that create the situation. Shrieking whining Shelley Winters vs. Elizabeth Taylor in her prime, braying frumpy Lorraine Bracco vs. the elegant classy Mimi Rogers. It's a no brainer. Maybe if Taylor and Winters or Rogers and Bracco had switched roles, it would have been more interesting.

That is an interesting comparison between A Place In The Sun and Someone to Watch Over Me. Frankly, I'd never made that connection, but now that you have pointed it out, it certainly is apt.

There are a number of '80s- and '90's-era Sony titles (or Sony-distributed) titles that are mysteriously missing. This one, THE FRESHMAN, BIG NIGHT, IN THE COMPANY OF MEN, a bunch of John Sayles movies, etc. I'm still waiting on a domestic release of FAIL SAFE!

One of my favorite directors too. If by any chance you ever feel like running a Ridley Scott film by film discussion I'll contribute....++ This is the only Ridley Scott film I haven't seen yet.

In these pictures I think that it is intended that you side with the male lead and so perhaps the way they approach getting you to forgive his indiscretion is by making it a choice pretty much most men would make.

I mean let's face it if you had the Liz Taylor of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at home and the Liz Taylor of A Place in the Sun throwing herself at you wanting to have an affair...which would you chose to sleep with? And if you knew somebody with that choice would you blame them for choosing the A Place in the Sun version?
