Personally,
I think the *exciting* means they got the Sci-Fi Channel episodes(season 8-10)

Becuase they even said in the past thats what they were trying to get equired.

BUt I'm wondering if they got all the formalities worked out with this episode
1003- MERLIN'S SHOP OF MYSTICAL WONDERS

When it was first suppose to air, it didn't right away. something about it not being allowed to air on tv(the movie, not the mst3k parts)

If they do have the rights to the Sci-fi Channels episodes, they should at least release the last episode.

Isn't the last episode Diabolik? Paramount controls the rights to that and hasn't seen fit to release it themselves so I can't imagine them EVER giving Rhino the right to do so in an MST3K version.

Yes, Diabolik was the final episode, and the rights to show it on Sci Fi just expired.

CRAP! I love that one. No wonder I haven't seen it since some time earlier this year.

Does anyone know if the MST3K premise is protected? I've always thought how funny it would be to have a cable version with swearing and such. Maybe even work with some soft core porn titles. Basically an extreme version of MST. :D

Well, BBI hasn't stopped anyone from doing their own riffings. However, part of the charm of the show is the mostly PG-ratedness of it. I don't see why South Park humor would be needed to improve the show.

Speaking as a somewhat crazed MST fan, I'd love to see new-to-video releases. I would think a large number of films used in the Comedy Central episodes are in the public domain. I know other threads have had a pretty detailed list.

Anyway, I was thinking if I was running Rhino (something I probably do a little too often), I'd put together themed box sets. I wanna see the 60s spy movie set (Secret Agent Super Dragon, Operation Double 007, Danger Death Ray, Agent for H.A.R.M.), the Juvenile Delinquents set (The Beatniks, Daddy-O, The Rebel Set, Kitten With a Whip), the Made-For-TV fest (Stranded in Space, San Francisco International [god, this one's funny], Riding With Death, Master Ninja I and II), Russo-Finnish Co-ProductionFest (The Day the Earth Froze, The Sword and the Dragon, Magic Voyage of Sinbad, Jack Frost), and so on. There are actually a lot of possibilities for this kind of thing. I'm kinda hoping for something like this announced for Q4.

I have Season 2-up on vhs (summer '95 had a cool countdown of sixty eps), but I'd be so pleased to have them on little shiny discs with whatever goodness Best Brains/Rhino wishes to bestow on us.

My coupla cents.

I wish Rhino would hurry up and announce their news. Im just about ready to burst. I want older episodes. Many of Comedy Central recordings are less than perfect.

ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease let GAMERA titles be announced.

The only KTMA you'd see on DVD would be the host segments since the movie rights were never obtained to begin with. Also, those episodes are everything the Brains say they are... while there are some funny jokes here and there, they are REALLY boring episodes. The host segments fare better and reside in Jim Mallon's collection (He supposedly has all the master tapes, some were used for the MST3K Scrapbook video by the Info Club)

This is one instance where a compilation is really needed just for the purpose of being entertaining.

I concur that the announcement is probably the SciFi episodes, which I think would be exciting! I've been dying to own The Mole Men(I think that's what it was called). If its not SciFi episodes, I'm sure it is at least episodes that haven't been available before. Too bad rights issues will never allow them to do season sets.

Well, nothing new yet huh?

But Alien From L.A. is being released by MGM in about a month,
sure would be nice to have this episode.

And Laserblast has been on DVD a long time.

My guess? The existing Rhino episodes will be remastered in DTS!

Because DTS is always better. :emoji_thumbsup:

They went to stereo half-way through season 8.

However, KTMA was produced in stereo. And if you'd want to count it...MST3K: The Movie had DTS 5.1 in theaters.

I check the mst3kinfo site every day, hoping that Rhino has revealed what their "exciting" news is. BTW, I just completed putting seasons 1,2,3,4,5 on DVD-R. Ive been using a JVC D-VHS deck for the playback, and a Panasonic DMR-E50 for recording. So far, the quality is amazing. The JVC does an amazing job of cleaning up VHS noise.

I'm not sure what 5.1 would have accomplished. They're riffing a mono movie and sitting in front of you.
