Comments: 'Yes, the DVD image is not perfect, but it stems from bad source material. Regardless, it is far superior to any other version you will see on TV or video. How can you not swoon back to boyhood when the combination of Ray Harryhausen, Jules Verne and Bernard Herrmann get together? The upgraded sound ( to DD 2.0 ) was also fine... good work. I was hoping for much more. The colors seem more abnormal than I remember... too vibrant in stages (especially where there is special effects). It looks to be film sourced and the extras are a nice added feature. Still a boyhood fav! 4/5
    Cheers,

    DITTO!!

I always write planned purchases on my calendar and this was the only one this week, yet no stores around my area seem to have stocked it. This looks like another online buy. I haven't seen this film in years and cannot wait to see it again.

Thanks for the review and link Gary. Love this film, a fantasy classic.
The usual great effects by Harryhausen and a superb Bernard Herrmann score.[IMG]
Can't wait for Disney's '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' next year (hopefully).

    I tried Fry's and Best Buy...nothing.

I'm gonna wait a week, then they'll have it.

Got "Eight Legged Freaks" last night for $15.99 at Fry's, not to bad a price!

Too bad they didn't include as an extra the wonderful stereo mix from the Pioneere SE that I believe our own Joe Caps worked on.
Bernard Hermann's score never souded better. Still I'll be picking this one up soon as it is my favorite of the Harryhausen films.[IMG]

I agree, the video could have been better, but it's FAR better than I've seen it since the theatrical release (I was 11).

Script is way more intelligent that most of this ilk; and only a few familiar faces (Herbert Lom and Joan Greenwood).

Soundtrack is superb for a 40 year old film.

The movie specific Harryhausen interview (~ 9 minutes) is nice, but Columbia needs to DITCH those other 2 featurettes that are on EVERY one of their Harryhausen releases!
