I'm replacing a lamp for a Mitsubishi HD1000 projector.
The replacement lamp I bought, supposedly HD1000 compatible, has different bumps on one of the corners, preventing it from fitting
What are these bumps? Are these some sort of mechanical key to prevent installing the wrong lamp? What would be the right way to order a compatible lamp? (I thought the projector model number would be enough)

It is possible either the retailer shipped you the wrong housing or you ordered the wrong part.

If the bulb itself is identical, you could install the new bulb in the old housing, BUT be sure you wear cotton gloves when handling the bare bulb. Oils from your fingertips can damage a projector bulb very easily.
