i have been using a pany xr 25 receiver but it has a internal problem that while watching movies, it freaks out a sends a static crackling noise through all the speakers and it must be turned off and then it resets until the next part of a movie, when for no reason, it does the same thing.

the receiver sounds great and has huge power, but acts up and needs retiring.

my considerings for a new receiver are.

    marantz at accessories for less

panasonic newer digital receiver (not sure which one though)

    harman kardon 330

    denons at ecost.com

the speakers are a 6.1 set up of all bookshelf size speakers with 4" driver.

    and 2 10" powered subwoofers.

what other receivers in 250.00 - 300.00 range are out there ?

    thank you.

the replacement for the 25 was the XR55 but this has just gone out of stock just about everywhere. there is a new XR57 announced which already out in Japan, and should be available elsewhere pretty soon.

the XR70 does have OSD but it is an older 6.1 model with a lowest xover at 100Hz and spring clips for speaker terminals (other than the mains). not sure how it sounds like - althoug it is using the same TI Equibit amplification.

the XR55 doesn't have OSD but is newer 7.1 with lowest xover at 80Hz and binding posts for all channels. Also it has some new technology that allows you to use the surround amps to augment the front channels if you use the receiver in stereo mode. The XR57 will have this capability even if you are using it in 5.1 mode (2 unused amps)

Patrick: why don't you just get the XR-25 repaired? It's only three years old.
