You guys remember when the newest games used to cost like $70 or even $80?? I think I paid about that much for Chrono Trigger for SNES and KI Gold for N64. It's so much better now that games are on discs now and they're cheaper.

I've never paid more than $60 for a game unless it included a special controller or other physical accessories (been buying games since 1977).

I'd say 99% of the games I have ever bought cost $50 (typical current game disc price) or less. I actually consider the current $50 to be pretty high. I guess when you adjust it for inflation it isn't terrible, but I suspect the margins over manufacturing cost (not necessarily game budget) are the highest they have ever been. Though some say that 80% - 90% of games lose money (due to voodoo accounting and privately held companies, we'll never know the real number), and I believe it.

I remember paying $150 (Australian) for the JAP import of SF2 Turbo, then I had to pay another $30 for the SNES import adapter! I was only about 14 at the time, so that was a hell of a lot of money!

    $99.99 for Phantasy Star IV.

And if you really want pain, talk to Neo-Geo owners.

I paid $70 for Goldeneye; that was the most I've ever paid. Once I got wise to paying retail for anything (about 4 years back), I've kept my average price per game to around $30.

I remember when Neo-Geo games costed a fortune, wishing(back then) I could afford all those games.

I'm glad now, I never invested in those games.

$49.99 seems a resonable price for most games.

Being a (former)Neo Geo owner, I can say I wish games were just $109.

Most for me was $90 for an import game. Other than that, I remember paying between $60 and $70 for some N64 games (sorry guys, I missed out on the early stages of gaming).

Yeah, I remember those days. It was especially bad during the era of the Genesis and the SNES. For me, $60 to $70 seemed like the norm for most new games. I just didn't expect to get them for less unless they were used or old games on clearance. This is why I find it absurd that anyone would complain about games being $50 these days.

I edited my previous post to say what I meant to:
I'd say 99% of the games I have ever bought cost $50 (typical current game disc price) or less.

Oh yeah, forgot about Neo Geo games... Weren't they like over $200? BTW, I used to have a 3DO---$400 for the system. Wow I sure was desperate for 'next gen'.
