People used to post anything to get their thread posts up?

There were only two or three smiley faces?

People would abuse IBTL?

There were three or four main sections and a handful of admins?

The server used to be down every other day :b

There were no HSU vs SVS wars. Just Velodyne, Paradigm, and Infinity subs?

Feel free to add your memories...

People would use the Testing area to boost post counts.

Knappisms.

Fox wasn't doing DVD.

Disney wasn't doing DVD.

People were more polite than how it is now.
People posting replies to thread to help out, give advice and not to beat down on someone else, or on a particular product.

On the lighter side....people's sig consisted of their equipment list, which were way too long.

Amazing, isn't it .... that "1997" can be talked about as if it were some long-forgotten time from the Dark Ages. It's really only a small sliver of time.

But...DVD has certainly bloomed nicely during this sliver, huh?? :)

Can anybody remember when you had to "pull the chain"? Not any DVD chain, I mean the other deal..... :)

You know you're REALLY getting old when you're practically the only person in a crowded room who actually remembers when Pepsi-Cola used to come in glass bottles (that you had to return for deposit). :D

Most young whipper-snappers under 22 have never had the cool, refreshing experience of downing an ice-cold cola drink via a frost-covered 16-ounce glass bottle! Ahhhhhh! :)

When we crossed the 1000 membership mark
DIVX (spit!)
The Big Three Abstainers (Paramount, Disney, Fox)
Porn hadn't started supporting DVD (hence it was still niche) :D

No separate pan-and-scan releases, either it was on the same disc with the widescreen or it wasn't there at all.

Fox was overpriced with very few releases, and wanted to price new releases at $89 for rental.

Columbia put out consistently good discs.
