Reading the manual of the RP-82 that I picked up today and there's a feature called remastering.

From the description it sounds an awful lot like upsampling, is it?

Not sure if it is, technically, upsampling, but it does help a bit. I noticed that music from redbook CDs are just a tad richer and have less of the hollow, tinny sound you get from a lot of players. However, this isn't to say it's very good for CD playback--a good dedicated CD player will still sound better than the RP-82.
