Registering DVDs (1 Viewer)

I was going through the Holes extra's when I saw that they offer some sort of replacement guarantee if you register your DVD on-line. Now call me naive, but I haven't seen or heard of this before. (I don't seem to have much time to go through all the extras on the DVDs - yes, I'm so ashamed!)

Does anyone know of any pros/cons for this offer?

I don't rip or sell DVDs. (I'm assuming this offer is to help them combat piracy; plus give them a mailing list.) Occasionally I'll give them away when I double-dip. But all told I can't see a down side.

Disney titles seem to do this, lately. I haven't seen this from other studios. I don't think I'd "register" unless I had a problem. Even then, I'd try to get it replaced without registering. Sounds like a ploy to add you to their Spam List.
