Ring Electronics is selling these on ebay, doctored for all regions, anyone know anymore about them? http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1268724465
He seems to be getting about $1800 for the unit (a modified Japanese model). Pioneer has the price for the US version at $2,800 when they become available this fall.
The E-bay ad is in J-English so some of it's a little hazy, but this looks to be quite a bargain! Progressive scan out and firewire input too.

Not sure, but I don't think it converts PAL-->NTSC. If that's the case then you'll need a TV compatible with both, unlikely if you're in the US or Canada.
Also, most players play DVD-R (but not record of course).
Personally I don't it's worth paying that much for a recorder, but each of us is different.
