I'm not just talking about Malata machines. We're talking Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc. It seems that most players purchased in HK are region free. I personally own a Sony 9000ES. A great thing about this machine is that it will even play RCE discs from Columbia. These secks are sold at legitamte retailers.
It just seems strange that this practice is allowed. I wonder if it ships out as R0 machines. Anywhere else in the world like this?

The stores or the warehouses chip the players, and then put them on the shelves. The player manufacturers would just as soon NOT region code the players, and all responsibility leaves them when it leaves the factory. China has not signed the Berne convention, so they're safe on that end too
