The Bad & The Beautiful is probably the best i've seen so far.
its simply incredible to view (and its a good film to boot).
Sunset Boulevard is defintiely at the top of the heap too, along with Notorious (Criterion), Rebbeca(Criterion), Billy Liar(Ditto).
And Metropolis(Kino) is frequently jaw-dropping.
Mildred Pierce looks good, but a little too 'scrubbed' for me.
TB&B looks smooth and glossy, with deep inky blacks and a robust range of greys, but it doesn't feel like any of the natural grain was suppressed or taken away to get there.
for modern films, Elephant Man and Man Who Wasn't There are both fine looking discs.
i'm going to have to check out Now, Voyager and a few others mentioned here that i've missed.
a well done B&W film is a thing of beauty, indeed.
