My Sony receiver just blew and I'm looking for a replacement. Something in the $300 range. Mainly used for movies, music is secondary.

Needs to power 2 Polk S8's and a center (TBD). Also must power 2 speakers (cheapos) located in another room with same source. I'll be upgrading to full surround (5.1, most likely) in the next 6 months, so that's a concern as well.

More concerned with sound/quality of the unit than aesthetics and flash. I'd like to stay away from Sony as I have not had good luck with 2 units I've owned in the past.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Give the Yamaha HTR-5760 a look. I own the 5790 and love it. Lots of features for the money.

The 5760 is above $300 from an authorized dealer.

I have the Panny SA-XR50 which can be shipped to your door for $240. I use JBL's all the way around and it has plenty of fully digital power. Great sound, detail, imaging, slim design, very little heat, etc.

I also had a Yamaha HTR-5590 and while it had great build quality and features, the Panny provided better sound in my HT.
