    hi all -

does anyone know of any decent (hopefully free) software that'll "test" my system with whatever tests are used these days?

i'm not looking for anything fancy....just more for curiosity than anything else. just curious how my system performs with baseline configurations, real-world performance, etc.

    thx!

3DMark2001SE is the norm for gaming..it'll measure your computers performance with game tests that are 'in the future'. There are also some dx8.1 tests as well. A lot of people use this as a religious test and yap about it all the time. Just a good way to measure you systems performance for games.

I've used SiSoftware's Sandra when I put together my new PC. It's more generic and not necessarily geared towards gaming software. It also will recommend settings and stuff and has a bunch of different utilities, including a Motherboard temp sensor (if your motherboard supports it of course).

Yep, 3dmark2001 is for video testing, while Sandra is for whole system testing, configs etc. It is the way to go for sure. Pcmark2002 (I think thats the full title) is another good one!

One thing I liked about Sandra is that it gives you some idea where your speeds SHOULD be based on the hardware your testing.
