Hunting around I have found the following:

A bit ugly (gigantic pole), doesn't specify if it's 44lbs TOTAL or per shelf.

Seems like it would be virually invisible. Since it supports 100lbs, I could stack two/three items on it.

The MAVb/MAVw units. Only hold 45lbs, so a reciever will eat that up. Would need two or three then...

Something "like" this, but maybe just two shelves. This one cannot work at all though, 25lbs per shelf...

ANY other solutions you are familiar with? I think a thick/beveled piece of glass could look nice, but no clue on how thick it would have to be... or if this is even an affordable route to explore. Nice looking solution that hangs from the ceiling within this nook area?

    Decor: contemporary-ish/modern-ish.

Location: above big screen. Cannot go below, because viewing angle would then require rasing the couch/chairs, which is not an option.

    Available space above TV: H 3ft, W 5ft , D 2ft

Jason, do you have any pictures or links of your theatre to give us a better idea of the application?

Nope, but that picture above of the plateau unit perfectly illustrates my situation. I have a nook area where the big screen lives, and I want to place equipment above it. My bigscreen has a very small top, so I cannot even consider stacking equipment there.
