I want to eventually use 7.1 with my onkyo 701 amp (6-channel thx select) and need a 2-channel amp to have 7 speakers (2 surround rears) instead of just one.

can any recommend a reasonably priced 2-channel amp to look for new or used?

i have no reason to get a great 2-channel amp for front R/L this is strictly to drive the occasional use surround rear channels.

thanks in advance.

Easy.

The 100W Onkyo M-282. Can be found at amazon & J&R for $230.

This will give you that same "Onkyo" sound that you like so much (and timbre match the speakers relative to the receiver's amp).

A suggestion, since it does have the same "sound", I would recommend using it for your fronts (giving them a full 100w), and splitting up the receivers amp to the center&surrounds (which dont use that much anyway). You might find this to be a more balanced system.
