Hello, I am a first time poster. I hope I can get some good advise about a problem I am having with my Pioneer multi-channel receiver model VSX-D608. For more than six years, I have had no problems with it and the Bose 5.1 speakers connected to it. Then, just recently, after a lightning storm (Florida), the receiver will power off and on continuously, if the volume is set to –19db or louder. A loud pop is heard on the speakers, and then the receiver powers off for about 3 or 4 seconds. When it powers back on, it immediately pops and powers off, etc., etc. If I reduce the volume to –20db through –99db, it works fine. But if set to –19 or more, it will not stay on. Initially, after the lightning storm, only the right front and left front speakers worked (but still would pop off at –19db or more). After re-programming, they all work (but still pop off at –19 or more). Any ideas what could be the problem?

You also might want to check your speaker connections as two wires touching could cause it to do that too. I'm not John but any repair will be a minimum of $80 to $100

Jeff, I don't think it is wires crossing. I did a continuity test of all wires...no breaks or shorts. I then disconnected each speaker, one by one, while set at -19db. It still cycled off and on. I did find that the popping noise was coming only from the center speaker. As soon as I reduced the volume to -20db, it stopped cutting off. Does this sound like a problem with the circuit board? Thanks for the tip on the repair cost.

If it is lightning damage(and being in Florida it probably is) fixing it is not really worth it. Surges can weaken stuff that will go out after youve fixed the main problem. Time to get a new toy :)
