Can you please tell me which HK? And the existing 5 channels can be reassigned to the Left/right side surrounds and the left/right back surrounds? Thanks for the help.

the H/K 520 is the least expensive harmon kardon which has reassignable amp channels. It does not decode DD EX though. It does decode DD 5.1, dts 5.1 and dts 6.1.

The newer h/k's which do decode DD EX are 7 channel receivers.

Actually, the only Harman Kardon receiver that matches your request is the AVR-8000. The others either have 7 amp channels or lack 7-channel pre-outs.

The HK 320 and 520 have 5 channel amps with 7.1 processing. Both the 320 and 520 have 7.1 preouts (I just bought a 320 which I'm using as a DPL-II and Logic-7 processor). I believe the earlier post is correct in that the 520 has reassignable amps so that you can use an external amp for front L & R. The 320 amps are fixed and you add an external amp for the surround back channels.
