i'm helping a friend pick out a ht receiver and he's interested in the following features:
    1. video signal upgrading so all video inputs, composite, s video, and component exit the receiver as component. This will simplify connection to the tv
    2. built in amp and a/b switch for remote channels.

    thanks

I think most TVs that have a component in also have an S-video input. Many receivers today have both of these connections. Beyond the DVDP/LD, the only video sources I can imagine, are VHS and game systems. Upconversion from composit to S-vid would be a nice feature, but upconversion from composit or S-video to component sounds pretty esoteric ,and if available, would probably be only on some of the more expensive receivers. These upconversions would do nothing to improve video from the source but could minimize degradation. Realistically, look for receivers that auto switch composit to S-video.
