Honestly, if you're looking to buy @ Circuit City, you can take a few things home and try them out there.
That's normally what I do with a new receiver purchase. CC has a 30 money back guarantee.....no questions asked. Tell him to try one of the suggested brands and see what he thinks. If he doesn't like it, take it back and try another one.
Personally, I use a Kenwood VR-4080 with my Polks.....I can't complain. Of course I don't go around listening to different brands specifically because I really don't want to know what sounds better than my setup.....keeps the upgrade bug at bay.

    Thanks for the replies, guys
Mike, I told my friend he could borrow AVRs from stores, and hell, if CC has a 30 day money back no questions asked policy, that's the way to go.
Last night, we were talking and doing some reseach on ar.com, and harman/kardon seems to be the top choice right now followed by Denon; specifically the new H/K AVR-220 with DPLII posted at onecall.com and the Denon AVR-1802.
I'm jealous of my friend who will have upstaged my own hometheater thanks to my and other HTF memebers recommendations! Gimme money!
Anyway, after doing research for my friend, it appears that Polks are a well kept secret yet they're everywhere. I wonder how they stack up to Paradigm Ref.
    keep em coming boys.
