My brother was watching Matrix Reloaded yesterday and his HTIB Aiwa reciever shut itself off repeatedly. He was running it on Saturday as well and this didn't happen.

The unit is about 4-5 years old and doesn't get used very often. Its in pretty good condition. The unit doesn't usually get pushed to any appreciable limit and he wasn't driving it any harder than usual. Any idea as to why this happened? Thanks.

Well, you say it wasn't being pushed to its limits, but are you sure? How loud was the movie playing? Because it sounds as if the receiver went into overload.

I was in another room when it happened and he called me in to look/listen. Definitely was not running at a high volume. If its not overload, could it be bad wiring, or dust? Although its not in a spot where the wiring could be affected by passing pets, people, etc. He doesn't clean the stand its in often enough, but dust on the connections or in the unit doesn't sound like enough to cause it to shut down either.
