I want to buy a receiver for now, and in about 3-4 months I will be adding a 5ch. amp. My problem is this; if I know I will be bypassing the amplifier section should I go for the receiver with the better features and forget about amp quality? I'm looking at the Denon AVR-3803S and the Harman Kardon AVR 630!

Why not get that Denon 3803 deal from 6th Avenue for $650?

I'm not sure if it's still going on but it should be. That should save you a few bills. Oh yeah, and what would you be running w/ this receiver? If your speakers aren't too power hungry, that 3803 should be fine.

NO - just call and ask about the 3803 - essentially they ran out of the 3802s and were replacing them w/ 3803s. It's a pretty wide-known deal that's out right now.

Yep, that 3803 is a bad mammajamma on the pre pro section, and quite respectable on the power amp section.

The $640 deal is sweet, one of the better deals I have ever seen really.

I'll bet it runs reference levels just fine, even in a fairly large room, with relatively inefficient speakers.

I have the 4802 and it has quite a bit of headroom at reference levels in my 30x20 room with 10' cielings.
