My receiver (pioneer 1014) has a control in and output. The manual says that it is used for adding other pioneer products and using 1 remote to control them all. Does anyone know what kind of signal this puts out? I am working on a gainclone and was wondering if I would use this to turn the external amp on and off with the receiver.

    Total speculation alert!

The 'easy' thing would be if it was just passing the IR serial bitstream over a wire. Eliminate the carrier, of course, and have a modulated pulse-stream. That sort of control-out is often an 1/8" mini connector, tip and sleeve only ('mono.')

And I really don't know enough to know if it would do what you want it to do.
