    Dear All,

In your opinion, which is the best AV receiver below US$300.00?

Please reply on this thread to help me decide what to buy. No consideration to outside factors, just price & performance.

    Thanks,
    Elmer

If price and performance are the only important factors, then consider used gear. Look here in the for sale ads to start with. Next, look for refurbished gear.

"Performance" and "less than $300" don't entirely go together. I agree, used is probably your best bet to get the most performance for your money. Check your local stores for models that are being closed out or open box too. New, you might take a look at the Onkyo TX-SR503, or see if any stores have any 502s left that they will sell on closeout/demo.

Go with the standards - Marantz, Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Denon, etc...

    www.ac4l.com carries Marantz refurbs.

    www.harmanaudio.com sells refurbs direct.

    www.ecost.com carries refurb Denon.

    Not sure about Onkyo.

I'm considering a DENON AVR 1705, how about it? I'm also planning to buy a pair of Def Tech BP6(center, sub & surround later)..please comment.

Alot of people replaced their pioneer vsx-811's when the 1014&1015 came out , you should be able to find one of these for 200.00 or less used, I thought it was a good value at the time, in fact still use it in a bedroom system.Look over this site's hardware 4 sale, avs& audiogon, hey you might even find one on ebay.Buying used scares a lot of people so you might want to consider the refurbed units mentioned above, pawn shops are another good place to look.

ecost has a Denon AVR1905 right now under your budget.

Harmon Kardons ebay store factory direct refurbished AVR-335's for under three hundred and the AVR-630 for just over $400. The 630 is a real nice piece of gear more inline with Denon AVR-3800 series stuff.

Other than stuff that, you would really have to score some exceptional good deal used.

    best of luck.

Pcmall.com has Onkyo refurbs like the 602 for $299, the 601 for $240 and the 502 for $189.

Elmer, I'm selling my Pioneer elite VSX 24 TX. It is a 5.1 THX select reciever that has 90w a channel. I'm looking to get $250 for it. That price is negotiable. I Can't ship until I unhook it. I just bought the Outlaw 990/7125 combo. It is a solid reciever that has DDEX and DTS ES. It doesn't have pro logic 2 or some of the other newest surround systems. It still sounds great and people are always impressed when they hear my system. It is in great shape and still has a nice look to it.
