Received 5-Channel Audio Cables from BlueJeans (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I just received my 5-channel audio cables from BlueJeans so I can start listening to SACD and DVD-Audio but they only sent me 5 cables. I have always been under the impression that 5-channel is the same thing as 5.1. Their web site is not clear on how many cables you get with the order and now I'm short a cable. Am I wrong in assuming this?? IDK, but I guess I'm just bummed because now I have to wait for BJ to get back to me about what to do.

PS - Does anyone know why SACD and DVD-Audio can't traverse over the optical cable?

It's technically possible, but record companies want to prohibit copying to whatever extent possible and so the technology comes "crippled" in this regard. If you check out the latest issue of Stereophile, Jim Austin makes a great case in the "As we see it" editorial that this is the one issue that will likely prevent SACD/DVD-A from ever becoming mainstream. Convincing, I think.

Perry:

5 is not equal to 5.1, and you really needed to order a 6-channel cable, which you've figured out a little too late :-(

Kurt is pretty easy to deal with, and he might have you cross ship the 5 cable for the 6 cable and just charge you the price difference and shipping.

As for why no SA-CD and DVD-Audio over optical:

1) Copy protection paranoia from studios

2) Output rate beyond stereo for both formats exceeds defined limitations of interface.

3) Few receivers/processors can handle the DSD stream for SA-CD

4) Few receivers/processors can operate on 24/192K PCM data.

Thanks for the help guys. I still wish they were a bit more clear on the site because I don't associate a 6 channel set with 5.1. Oh well, they have already taken care of me and I have an additional cable on the way.
