Hi All,
I've got a Carver Cinema System 5.2 and am considering picking up a receiver that handles the new 6.1 output formats. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which speaker I should use with my existing set? I'm looking for something that's a good tonal match, similar in size and sensitivity. Oh, and if anyone has a spare surround speaker from the aforementioned system they'd be willing to part with, let me know. :)
AdvThanksance,
Grant

Hi Grant,
When I was shopping around and researching what to buy (speakers) for my HT, I considered buying the (now discontinued) Carver 5.1 or 5.2 setup. There are several retailers that have a stock of the surrounds that regularly appear on e-bay. Usually, you can pick up a pair of the dipole carver surrounds for about $99 (or less) there.
In fact, here's a link to some being auctioned there now... http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1260428788
You can do a search on e-bay for closed auctions to track down those vendors who had them in stock. You can buy the main speakers, the surrounds, and even the center channel from this setup in this way, and these would be the best tonal match. If you can find a center channel from the 5.1 setup (without the built-in subwoofer amps), that might be keen.
Oh, BTW, how does your setup sound? I never did get a chance to listen to one of these. Ended up buying nOrh speakers instead.
Good luck!
John

They sound wonderful. Best $700 I ever spent. (Thank you, Costco!) They do passably well for 2-channel music, and are wonderful for DD/DTS material - the entire set is very well matched. I 'm unhappy with the receiver I'm driving them with (A Pioneer VSX-D608), but that's what credit cards are for, right?

I'll check out Ebay - thanks for the tip.
