What does "Crossing" refer to in the name of the show?

Please forgive my ignorance, but I only recently started watching it, and (OT) I'm sure that you hate the A&E cropped broadcasts as much as I do.

"Crossing Jordan" is a biblical reference.

Personally, I'm wondering if we're ever going to see the season premiere. I don't really need to know what happened with the Michael T. Weiss character or how the fallout has put such a divide between Jordan and her dad that Ken Howard isn't a regular on the show any more, but I'd appreciate it.
