Mark, I always figure if I use the word "kiddie" I can do no wrong. It will annoy the really young reviewers on certain sites, and it will make the older ones feel good.

Glad everyone is agreeing with me about this DVD.

Steve,

I suppose you ordered it at the same online store as I did? For $6.98?
(Saw it in the UK offered for £10.49, or so!)

Bad part is: it takes several days before it crosses the Atlantic. But I'm waiting.

Nice to hear that it's such a superb transfer!

Cees, I ordered it from DVDPacific for $5.92, not inc postage. They usually take about 7-10 days to arrive. I've bought many dvds from them at very good prices, recently the 2-disc Treasure of Sierra Madre for just over a tenner, Duel SE for £5, Silver Streak and Daylight £3 each, btw that's pound sterling not the monopoly money Dennis uses over in fluffypumpkinland.;)

Steve, why would you pound on your sterling?

I've got a bunch of old Bundesbank Mark notes hanging around the house. Now that's real money. I'm curious what would happen if I tried to spend them in Germany today, now that they have gone "Euro"?

You can't.
All you can do, to preserve their value that is, is change them to Euros at an office of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

I just got The Agony and the Ecstasy and as others have said, the picture and sound are magnificent. The packaging incorrectly gives the sound as 2.0 stereo when it is actually 5.0. The documentary prologue sounds wonderful with Jerry Goldsmith's majestic and uncredited music. When I first started playing the disc I wondered why the sound was so bad but then realised that for some reason it defaults to the mono track. I don't understand why the disc has a mono track anyway, when it wasn't a mono film.

I was very impressed by the video and audio presentations of this dvd. A very good bargain for $6.00 and change.

Does anyone know why Futureshop.ca and Bestbuy.ca show a different cover for this DVD and, more worrisome, list it as full frame? Is there a different release for Canada?

Just a heads-up for all you fans... the soundtrack (including the Goldsmith intro) was released last month by Varese. It's limited to 3000 copies but you can still get it via their (awesome) soundtrack club:

[Mike scurries off to the Weekly RoundUp...afraid of what he might find. Hopes to find the place hasn't been trashed....but isn't hopeful.]

I'd like to ask anyone here (in Software) if they've found any copies of Agony/Ecstasy in any B&Ms near them yet this week.

We're having a similar discussion over in the RoundUp over in Coupons and Bargains and thought I'd increase my pool sample on this one question.

Anyone had any success?

Mike,

Have *not* seen it in Northern New Jersey at Borders, Best Buy, Sam Goody, Circuit City, FYE, Coconuts, CD World, even WalMart. :frowning:

I'm ordering it online...

Interesting question!

"The Agony and the Ecstasy" is the only DVD in a very very long time, that I wasn't able to find locally, on the release day. Best Buy, Circuit City, Tower Video(Sacramento) and Borders didn't have it. Borders ordered it for me with a seven day wait.

Fry's clerk asked me if it was a porno title.
For real?! Funny either way.

Forgive the duplication, but here's how things went with me at my local Circuit City this afternoon:

I asked if he knew if he had any copies of The Agony and the Ecstasy. He asked me to repeat the title. I did. He said, "so that's two movies?" It went downhill from there.

I told him it was a new release Tuesday. He went off to look at the new release shelf. I told him I already did that. He couldn't find it in his little computer printout at all. I told him it was a drama. He started to look in the drama section. I told him I already had. He went and looked on his computer at the cc.com website. Found it after struggling with the spelling and pronounced, "We don't have any!"
