Well according to my email you asked a NASCAR question, Brett yet mysteriously I don't see your post here in the thread. 
Anyway you've got a great eye for spotting when something isn't right lol, back when NASCAR first started using the GPS tracking system to point to the cars as they ran it wasn't perfected yet and more time than not the arrow was never pointing at the intended car lol, hell it still isn't right sometimes but it's gotten much more accurate over the last couple of years.
So what you saw in the film is dead-on accurate, just another example of Pixar's incredible eye for detail.
