Hi All,

I am completely new to this home theatre idea and din't have a clue when I was buying ONLY the 6 speakers (that too without wires) from the RCA RTD300 system.

Anyways, i thought I got the speakers really cheap (20$) but now i feel like a fool. And i really didn't want to invest in a home theatre system though we recently bought a projector and have a good dvd player.

Anyways, here's a small list of questions that I have.

Are the speakers any good without a receiver?
What is the cheapest receiver I can get which will work with these speakers?

These speakers don't have any other input except the two wires that generally go in, so no connection for a dc supply at all. Is there any way I can connect these speakers to my dvd player without the need of a receiver?

Thanks for taking your time to answer my questions.

Anuj,
One suggestion- dump the speakers- return them back to the store you bought them from. If you are running in tight Budget then go with 2 speakers and a decent reciever to begin with and build up the system as and when you have the funds. That way youll have a good HT even if it takes time rather than a crappy system.
But if you still want to use those speakers anyways then check whether they are 8 or 4 ohms and their maximum handling capacity and choose a reciever accordingly. You can pick up cheap reciever from ebay or probably radioshack. You wont be able to connect the speakers directly to your player without an amplifier in between(which is why the reciever is required)
