Just bought the Ransom SE and saw it was non-anamorphic when I got home. What a disappointment. I was going to return it, but I didn't have the first version, and plus it has a free ticket to see The Ladykillers which I want to see, so I guess if I knock off about $9 for the value of the movie cash, the $20 I paid isn't too bad. Still, what a dropped ball on BV's part.

PS My copy of Splash has a free movie cash certificate for the Ladykillers as well.

I agree wholeheartedly. It almost makes me wonder if someone executive from the home video division of MGM was canned and then got rehired at Disney. :)

A non-anamorphic widescreen release by a major studio? What year is this? 1998? :rolleyes

As Ryan pointed out: thanks for saving me some cash Diz!

Well, that's the end of that expected buy. I was planning to buy this and The Rundown. Instead I'll pick up The Rundown and something else.

Good job Disney! :D

I would say this Ransom release was some kind of joke, but it's not April Fool's Day...

That really is a travesty... Dinsey was just dumb on this one... They will end up losing a bunch of sales they could have had...

There is a customer service number on the disc. It is

1-800-477-2811

I called that number and registered concerns about the RANSOM
quality and non-anamorphic situation. The representative who fielded the call took notes and indicated that the concerns would be sent to their marketing and engineering team.

The transfer (as I re-call) was not even very well evaluated in 1997 when it was originally released.

It's a truly horrible transfer...regardless of the 16x9/4x3 issue. Loads of ringing from EE, a very "digital" flat and lifeless picture that looks like an electronic mess...nothing like film at all. Colors are strangely muted and all shifted toward red/orange. Almost looks like the sepia B&W beginning to Wizard of Oz!
