Ransom looks like it will be the theatrical release then. No indication that it will include the linger version which has been released on laserdisc. Bummer...

And if the deleted scenes are identical to the ones on the R2/4 release they will actually be taken from the extended TV version of the film, containing some very bad and awkward censorship overdubs.

Well...I guess that means no DTS tracks from R3. Bummer.

Now have to decide: DTS and non-anamorphic or anamorphic and no DTS.

I thought the R3 disc was anamorphic. If it's not, then I'll just wait for the R1 release.

No...i'm sorry. You're mistaken. It's not. The R2 and R4 ARE...but the R3 from Korea with DTS is NOT.

That's the Thai version. I was talking about the Korean, which is NTSC. I don't bother with PAL.

With respect to "Ransom", if they're not going to release the 139 minute version that came out on LaserDisc, then why bother? To me, the extra scenes flesh out the story and give it a better flow. Having the extra scenes on another part of the disc, and not integrated into the movie, is a waste.

It also stuns me that the extended version of
Ransom will not be made available. I
mean, why not? Disney isn't usually prudish
about these things and it surprises me that they
didn't go the extra mile here -- especially on
a Special Edition.

I know they read this forum regularly, and perhaps
they still have enough time to do this release the
justice it deserves.

I dont know if I want to buy Ransom then. Ive held out on the old one since its not the long version.

This is one of the few cases I regret selling my LD's

The only reason why this is coming out NOW is because Disney is rehashing Special Editions from other regions!

I mean, is this really a surprise to anyone?

They didn't put in extra effort for new masters for some DVD's when they first came out. Why would they bother now??

I picked up the Ransom SE LD on the cheap and it's curious that Disney doesn't use seamless branching on this title to present both a theatrical and a special edition cut. I'm assuming most of the deleted scenes are the ones that are in the SE.

They are not.

As I stated previously, the deleted scenes on the SE DVD are considerably shorter than the almost 20 minutes added to the laserdisc.
