Just in case there are any Lovecraft type peoples still reading around here.

I was randomly chatting with a coworker today about a new author I read (Caitlin Kiernen) and he lit up and started discussing horror authors. Turns out he is the editor for a soon to be released book about Lovecraft-based works. All set in a comical vein. Title? Hastur Pussycat Kill! Kill!

Caitlin Kiernen's stuff is great BTW.

Got it preordered ;)

It looks to be quite funny.

There's also an anthology coming out this fall that looks interesting. It's a Lovecraftian Sherlock Holmes collection called "Shadows Over Baker Street."

Hmmm...it's not every day you see HPL depicted as an action hero.

But then there's always 'The Call of Cthulhu' according to plush toys.

Wow, for a second there I thought that HPL comic was going to feature tentacle porn!

Hmm, so now I know how the Japanese got the idea...

Silly Max! That's what alt.sex.cthulhu is for!

But back to that comic - there's other stuff at that site and this image here of Lovecraft is so bizarre that it's nearly causing me to go insane. The premise, that HPL brought forth/summoned horrible tentacled monsters from other dimensions, is not new, but that sword-wielding, gun-toting action HPL has got to be one of the strangest things I've seen in a long time. Bizarre can be good, of course, but I think the story "H.P.L." by Gahan Wilson has a better portrayal. It's got Lovecraft in league with Them and feeding Them a little human sacrifice from time to time

But yeah, I'll buy that comic....

More news about humorous Lovecraft works:

From Nick Pollotta
"That Darn Squid God" is a brand new Fantasy/Humor novel, written by myself
and James Clay.
Synopsis: In 1880 London, two gentleman explorers from the International
British Museum for Stolen Antiquities, race around the world, and against the
clock, to try and stop the return of a prehistoric demon grimly determined to,
well, eat the entire Human Race.
The novel will be coming out August 2003 from Wildside Press in both hardback
(with a lovely dustjacket), and in trade paperback.
In a few days, a couple of sample chapters will be posted on my web site.
Best wishes,
Nick Pollotta
BTW Dwight, could you pester your co-worker a bit? I'm really really wanting to get my grubby little webbed fingers on 'Haster Pussycat Kill! Kill!' I want it now, not after strange aeons of waiting for the stars to align!

It is currently in the Netherlands, sorry.

All that signature thing, ya know.

Actually there is nothing the editor can do once it goes into the publisher's hands. Thus the long unexpected delays.

Of course gumby already has his copy but I will wait with everyone else.

Thanks Dwight. I knew it had gone out for the signatures but had thought it would be a bit quicker. Oh well, it looks to be worth the wait.

Dwight, I'll second Kiernen. I loved both Silk and Threshold. A bit young yet, like Gaiman. Still darn good fiction though.
