I sold the old Fox Lorber version expecting an announcement on the newly remasterd version. Any news?

Nothing that I've heard, though FL previously said the new version wouldn't be out until 2002.

Winstar (aka Fox Lober) was planning on releasing a special edition with a transfer of the new restored print sometime this year, but I haven't heard anything. The strange thing is that Anchor Bay owns the rights to Ran beginning 2002; they were planning on releasing a new version then, but decided against it because of Winstar's SE plans. Does anybody know if Winstar can even release the DVD in 2002 when ABay owns the rights?

I hope whatever happens with this movie, it's done right! RAN is one of my favorite DVDs, but ONLY because of the movie it contains. The job that was done on it was just horrific.

I can only hope and pray that Anchor Bay gets to do this, rather than the fiends at Winstar/Fox Lorber, who can be counted on, more often than not, to do a generally piss-poor job, even with a masterpiece like Ran -- witness their first attempt.

I'd love to see an SE of Ran. It'd also be nice if Warner Bros. would release Akira Kurosawa's Dreams.
