Ever check out the nutritional information of your basic 7 cent pack of Ramen noodles? Do you think that info is based on the full spice package? I can't imagine the noodles themselves being that unhealthy and usually I only use like a 1/4 of the package for anything, sometimes I use my own spices and soy sauce or salt.

The "flavor packet" must have a majority of all the sodium and fat.
I am surprised I didn't develop high blood pressure and weigh 400lbs after all the Ramen I ate in college. [IMG]
I have some good cheap recipes for ramen if you want 'em!

I looked at a package a while back and wondered the same thing. You can't tell me that there is that much fat in the spices.

In a piece of junk mail I received it had a list of the top 10 unhealthiest things you can eat. If I remember correctly Ramen Noodles was in the top 3. The fact that they fry the noodles before they package em make them extremely unhealthy.

So yes, it's the noodles not the spices.

The fat is in the noodles (fried) and the sodium is in the flavor packet. Don't forget about the bug parts and larvae!

i'll only eat the sapporo ichiban brand. the other stuff tastes terrible to me.

i usually try not to put the whole package in and i almost NEVER drink the soup. i figure that'll help cut down on it somewhat.

also, my girlfriend often makes won-tons (beef and shrimp) and then freezes them. that way, when i cook the saimen, i can also cook the won-tons! talk about yummy.

put some diced onions (those long stringy green ones), maybe a touch of sesame oil, an egg, bok-choy and you are golden! oh yeah...add some of that chili-paste stuff if you want to kick it up a notch.

i shudder to think how many hundreds of packets i've probably eaten in my lifetime.

    great...now i'm getting hungry.
