I have a
700 mhz compaq presario.
32mb gforce
190 something ram
WindowsXP

I can either buy another 164mb RAM

or a 64mb gforce 2

Which one do I take?

I want better battlefield 1942 play. thats pretty much about it.

I need to know soon so anyone that could help me out would rock!

oh and the RAM is 20 cheaper.

ram definitely. Assuming your geforce is a ddr model, not sdr.

164 megs seems like an odd amount of ram.

RAM comes in 32/64/126/256/512 MB configurations.

With a sub gig/hz processor its a tough call.

I might be more inclined to put the cash towards the video card. though more than 256 of ram would be good too.

Problem is that the newer games, like BF1942 really need more horsepower than what you have and what u can upgrade to.

Many of the newer video cards really need a 1.5 gig/hz CPU or better (not the GF2 though). So upgrading to a GF4 or equilv ATI would be wasted money for your current system.

My guess is that your PC uses PC-133 RAM which you would not be able to cary over to a new MB/CPU upgrade down the road.

So I would go ahead with the GF2 and crank the in game video settings way down. Make sure when playing that no other processes are running. kill all them taskbar icon(s) programs.

sounds good. I just picked up a 128mb for 10 bucks. I plan on buying a newer computer in the near future so thats when Ill put my money into a good card.
