It was after Esther had been given her freedom and announced her marriage.
I think it was a toast to her future. The sound had been erased and rerecorded for channel identification.
Nothing really remarkable.

Must have been the Cinerama edition then. I just remembered that they had some special edition about large format film that was pretty impressive.
It had the only description of Fred Waller's second generation Cinerama camera which ,of course, never saw the light of day.,

Impressive, you have quite the collection there! What content did you have from TGSET? I take it that this would have been contact printed and without the distortion that was later employed to adapt it to Cinerama screens.

It was one of the rushes of a sequence inside the Temple set.
Not sure whether it was corrected or not, Oliver.
Possibly it was,as it was given to me by the projectionist at the Casino Cinerama.
It was sent to them to help them install their single lens setup for when HTWWW finished.
Would make sense to have a rectified print.
Was fun to see a clapper board in 70.

I’m amazed the movie was never released in Camera 65! Why not? Why spend all that money then dump it onto 35mm. Though I know they did that with Zulu too though that was shot Super Panavision 70.

Apparently at the time of its release, the projectors that could show 70mm films were still tied up with showings of Around the World in 80 Days, that little film made by Elizabeth Taylor's husband, Mike Todd.

Ironic perhaps as Mike Todd was at the time married to her and it was his success with 80 Days that impacted on the release of Raintree. The then most talked about couple made many trips to 80 Days premieres giving the film tremendous publicity.

I am surprised that since it was only released in 35mm cropping the sides of the MGM Camera 65 negative, they made the text for opening titles for the full image.

"edee LASS"?

I saw ZULU in 70mm on a 62 ft wide screen when it was first released. So why do you say that 70mm prints were 'dumped' for 35mm release only?

Also another reason was that few countries had 70mm installation when the RAINTREE COUNTY was released.

Great story and I agree that it would have been rectified to allow them to dial in the presentation. Hope you get to that garage to find all of this!

I completely agree about going for a proper Blu-ray that shows the whole frame, the same goes for Fall of the Roman Empire.
Both movies were conceived and designed with the ultrawide roadshow presentation in mind starting with the titles.

Peter where did you see Zulu in 70?
The UK release was 35 mm only.
About a year after the UK release a 70 print was made for,of all places, South Africa and the Cinerama Theatre in Cape Town.

I saw ZULU at the Embassy Cinema in Wellington,New Zealand - they had the largest screen for 70mm projection in Australasia. The film was shown in 70mm also in Auckland and Christchurch. It was also shown in Sydney,Australia when re-issued or 12 July 1968.

OK Technirama 70 not Panavision 70 but 70mm all the same. They didn’t make 35mm réduction prints from 35mm negatives.
