"Evangeline" by Emmylou Harris, from the album of the same name, featuring Dolly and Linda on harmony vocals

Emmylou's version of Springsteens "My Father's House" from "Thirteen"

Emmylou's "It's a Hard Life Wherever You Go/Abraham, Martin and John" from "Live At the Ryman" (do I get double credit for that one?)

Nicollette Larson's version of Lowell Georges "Two Trains" from "All dressed up and No place to go"

Earl Klugh's "I heard it through the grapevine" from "Blue 'N Soul Blue Note Plays the Soul Hits" (amazing album)

Adam Sandlers "Werewolves of London" from the Warren Zevon tribute album "Enjoy Every Sandwich" (thought I would hate it but was pleasantly surprised)

Just remembered Rare Earth, either "Get Ready" or "I'm Losing You." They seemed to be the only ones who could do a good Temptations cover.

Well I guess I'll throw my list in too:

Disc 1:

1. Johnny Cash - Hurt
2. Dave Matthews Band - Long Black Veil
3. John Mayer - Lenny
4. Los Lonely Boys - I Walk The Line
5. Stray Cats - You Can't Hurry Love
6. The Clash - I Fought the Law
7. Johnny Rivers - Memphis (If my memory serves me correctly Chuck Berry originally preformed this song)
8. The Ataris - Boys of Summer
9. Eric Clapton - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (yes I know he played on the original, but he also covered it at the Concert for George, so it's not a straight cover but it still counts)

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I don't have my actual music library in front of me as I'm at work. So maybe I'll update this later.

That brings to mind:

Voodoo Child performed by... betcha thought I was gonna say Stevie Ray!...
Urban Turban.

Great act. American music, mostly blues, performed by Swedes [or possibly Finns?] on Turkish instruments -- one of which I think is that "sackbut" thing mentioned in the Psalms.

Nick, you're about half-way to filling a disc. Why don't ya make one? Read my playlists. They should give you some ideas and reminders. People are havin' to remind me of what I've temporaily forgotten, I think, I'm not quite sure of that, actually I've forgotten the subject now! Furthermore, where to, thou'st remember'est, and so on, I always say. People have given me sum purr-dy fair suggestion for Discs too. I've picked up about 10 along the way. Tank U's peoples of earth out dare!

I have several of the songs you suggested but they've been lost in those shadz of grayz, know what I mean. I have Stray Cats, The Clash, Johnny Rivers 'an he has other cover later auh-ha, have Clapton, Mayer, but I don't Long Black Veil By Dave. I do have it by Joan Baez and I don't think she's nearly even close to being the original artist...?

You hit my mark with them quails, eh! :)

9. Humble Pie- I Don't Need No Doctor
Wow, haven't heard that version in years.
I saw Humble Pie in maybe 73 or 74 and I THINK they played that. Interesting side note..the opening band was a little band from Texas called ZZ Top pre- long beards.
I'll have to drag out First Album and Rio Grande Mud along with all the old Humble Pie platters now!
Nice topic...Rachael, would love to go thru your collection!

Yo Stevie Ray! I saw Humble Pie atleast 3 times in the 70's and they always played I Don't Need No Doctor. All the times were post Frampton. I would of liked to have heard them in the early days with Frampton. I thought I was gonna see Steve Marriot with the Small Faces in '71. However, He was just derparted for Pie and Rod Stewart and Ron Wood were just in. We were listenig to Itchycoo Park whist we warmed up for the show. The new Small Faces were good though, very enjoyable with a mix of their old stuff and Stewart & Wood's songs. BTW, Savoy Brown was the headliner and they were a smokin' band back then.

Humble Pie was so funky in the late 70's though. They were so much more R & B than most of the other heavy hitters of that era. I really had a good time at their shows. I've used 3 versions of I Don't Need No Doctor so far. Have you heard the New Rider's Of The Purple Sage version? Gerry Garcia is a quest soloist on it. It's an awesome solo! Marriot sings it better but Garcia picks it better, IMO. The original, Ashford & Simpson, version of that song is my so, so, so my least favourite. The Styx version isn't half bad but the recording is so "overheated". Amongst the worst offenders I've ever heard. It sends the VU meters on my Marantz player/recorder as high as ever seen on some songs. Well, that song isn't the worst on the album, mastering-wise, fortuneatly...ugh. The major labels are working so hard at destroying SQ...

Check out the New Rider's if you never have. The songs with Garcia are purr-dy fair, and they don't need no doctorin'!;) :)

Judy, thanks for the Emylou Harris suggestion. I had two nice vinyls of her in my collection, Evangeline (hot dam what a good bunch of players to back her and what great covers!!!) and Profile Of which I don't like nearly as much, plus, I pulled out a Gram Parson where she's featured. I made MD's and CD's of them all, besides me Kovered MD's. Evangeline is such an awesome album. Amazon usually has most everything in print, so I decided to see if a possible CD had any bonus tracks. It seems to be out-of-Print!:frowning: I was shocked. I have only heard about 5 of her albums over the years, en todo, si? Evangeline is by far my fav...I like the stuff with Gram too...:) Best wishes!
