Notes on my reviews: I do not offer plot summaries in most cases, as these can be found on a million other sites, but rather focus instead on what people want to know: the image and sound presentation, default playback settings, subtitles, audio choices, etc. My equipment: Panasonic TC-P55UT50 Plasma monitor (3-D capable); Panasonic DMP-BDT220 3-D Blu-ray player; LG BD-360 all-region Blu-ray player; Denon AVE-E200 5.1 Surround receiver. All aspect ratios are physically measured on the Panasonic screen, which has been set to eliminate overscan.
RABID is an enjoyable precursor to SCANNERS and THE BROOD, and stars, of all people, XXX porno queen Marilyn Chambers, who is quite beautiful and sexy, and has some acting chomps, and is here keeping the nudity relatively in check, but still appeals to her fan base. This was Cronenberg's second film, after SHIVERS.
The film is given stellar treatment by Arrow UK. The 1.78:1 image is beautifully rendered, with appropriate grain (apparently untouched), excellent color, contrast, and shadow detail. Sound is 2.0 mono. The soundtrack is English, and an English subtitle track is available.
As for bonus features, this disc is loaded. You get two commentaries, one with David Cronenberg, and a second with William Beard, author of The Artist as Monster: The Cinema of David Cronenberg. There are interviews aplenty, a short about the makeup effects, "The Directors: David Cronenberg," a 1999 documentary; a trailer, reversible cover, and thorough booklet.
This is a region B locked release.
Recommended without reservation for Cronenberg fans.

Sorry I neglected to tag this as International.
